New Zealand Food Safety (MPI) has clarified the registration requirements for warehousing businesses that only store wine.
If a warehouse is storing finished wine, they do not need to be registered under the Wine Act 2003 or the Food Act 2014. Regulation 18 of the new Wine Regulations 2021, which came into effect on 1 July 2022, states that wine storage businesses that solely store bottled wine (without any other winemaking process being applied) is exempt from needing a wine standards management plan. As such, registration under the Food Act is not required.
