During her career Karen has gained vast experience in food safety, with a background in the development and management of Food Safety Programmes and Risk Management Programmes, and working in microbiological laboratories. Also she has experience in Quality Management which included the implementation of an ISO 9000 series Quality Management System.
Her roles have included auditor, consultant, compliance technologist, microbiology laboratory manager and quality assurance management.
Whilst in these roles Karen has gained a thorough experience in auditing, managing microbiological testing programmes, developing and improving processes to ensure food safety requirements are met, and has gained a strong knowledge of food preservation by vacuum packaging, modified atmosphere, chilling, freezing, brining, smoking, and marinating.
She has also trained and assessed NZQA unit standards for food handlers
